Protection of Holy Places Bill (Amendment - Authority of the Chief Rabbinate of Israel), 5786-2026

The bill seeks to add a new definition to the Protection of Holy Places Law, 5767-1967. The new definition is intended to clarify that the "desecration" of a holy place, in the context of Jews, is any action that contradicts the guidelines and rulings of the Chief Rabbinate of Israel. Additionally, it is proposed to amend the law so that Section 4, which deals with the Minister of Religious Services' authority to enact regulations, will explicitly include the requirement to consult with the Chief Rabbinate of Israel regarding regulations concerning places holy to Jews. The purpose of the amendment is to ensure that guidelines regarding places holy to Jews are in accordance with Jewish law as determined by the Chief Rabbinate.
