Golan Heights Bill (Amendment - Application of Sovereignty over Areas that Were Under Israeli Control at the End of the Yom Kippur War), 5786-2025

The bill seeks to apply Israeli law, jurisdiction, and administration to territories that were under Israeli control at the end of the Yom Kippur War. These territories include the Golan Heights, areas that were under Israeli control within the framework of the Agreement on Disengagement between Israel and Syria signed on May 31, 1974, as well as additional areas that were under Israeli control at the end of the war, such as the city of Quneitra and its surroundings, the peak of Mount Hermon, and the "Syrian enclave." The proposal stems from the political and security reality that has changed since 1974, as Syria has disintegrated during the civil war, and the disengagement agreement is no longer valid or relevant. According to the bill's sponsors, applying Israeli sovereignty over these areas is a necessary step to protect Israel's strategic interests, territorial integrity, security, and wholeness.
