Local Authorities (Election of Head of Authority and Deputies and Their Tenure) Bill (Amendment - Limitation of Fourth Term for Head of Authority), 5785-2025

The bill limits the number of terms for heads of local authorities. A person who has served as head of a local authority for three full terms will not be able to be elected for a fourth term. The proposal is intended to prevent the concentration of too much power in the hands of one person over time and to reduce the concern of corruption or breach of trust. It is also intended to allow heads of authorities to dedicate their time and energy to public service, knowing that their tenure is limited in time.
