Basic Law: The Government (Amendment No. 17) (Abolition of the Alternate Government)

The law abolishes the arrangement of an alternate government. This means there will no longer be an option to appoint an alternate prime minister. The main changes are: sections in Basic Law: The Government that define the role of the alternate prime minister, the date of the rotation, and the manner in which the alternate government operates are repealed. References to the alternate prime minister in other sections of Basic Law: The Government, such as those concerning the removal of a minister from office, deputy ministers, the government's authority to dissolve the Knesset, and votes of no-confidence in the government, are deleted or amended so that they no longer refer to the alternate prime minister. References to an alternate government in the Government Law and the Security Service Law are deleted. The law will enter into effect on the day of the Twenty-Sixth Knesset.
