Kashrut Fraud Prohibition Law (Amendment No. 5), 5786-2026

The law changes how kashrut certificates are issued. From now on, a kashrut certificate will be granted by an authorized rabbi, an authorized kashrut body, an authorized religious council, or a local kashrut authority. The Chief Rabbinate will continue to authorize the rabbis and bodies that can issue kashrut certificates. The law also sets new rules for kashrut supervisors. From now on, a kashrut supervisor may work only with a valid certification, or if qualified to serve as a city rabbi. A new mechanism for objecting to kashrut decisions will also be set up, including a committee that will hear objections. The law also widens the powers of the minister in charge of religious services, allowing them to make regulations on kashrut, including setting fees for kashrut certificates. The law also renews the provisions on employing kashrut supervisors, and lets local authorities keep employing supervisors who do not meet the new conditions, under certain terms.
